摘要:The “Stockmühle”, also known locally as the “Flottermühle”, is the oldest type of a watermill in Austria to grind grain. This special type of watermill with a horizontal waterwheel is nowadays just known in the south-western part of Austria in very steep valleys. The main places are Kals (7 mills), Apriach (8 mills) and Mallnitz (5 mills). According to current knowledge, this type of mill was probably invented in the high mountain regions of Asia Minor. In their present form, they are likely to be about 250 to 300 years old.
During the World Wood Day event in March 2019 in Stuebing the structure of a “Stockmühle” was reconstructed in cooperation of various handicrafts and craftsmen from the museum.
The original mill was visited to survey the building. A 3D laserscan was performed to get a digital model of the mill – the building itself as well as the machine. The reconstruction will be carried out due to idealized measurements – not following deformations etc. These measurements include the overall dimension, angle of the roof, wall thickness, average beam size etc.
The main part of work of the WWD Grant project was the precise documentation of the grinding machinery. Therefore a survey of the functional principle itself and the positioning within the building was done.
Erwin Urdl was leading a team of six international specialists - Pierre Cabrolier, Mark Griffith, Joe Thompson, Matthieu Peeters, Markus Loges and Ola Hjelen and some changing colleagues from the Austrian Open Air museum in Stuebing. The starting was at March, 12th 2019 with the goal to be finished Saturday 23rd of March 2019. So it is a still ongoing project and the first photos will be shown.
